Why Goal Setting is Not Enough to Achieve Your Dreams

Let me ask you a question. Have you set a goal for the new year? While we have always heard about the importance of setting SMART Goals, at times, people don't realize that in order to achieve what they dream of, setting goals is not the only thing you need to do. Today, I am going to share with you four tips on how to get to goal achievement!

Tips for Goal Achievement

I’m not here to give you tips on how to set goals, but how to achieve them. Are you ready?

#1: Be Clear

First, you need to be clear on what you want to achieve and why. If you haven’t read my blog post on How to Develop a Plan of Action with Measurable Goals, I recommend doing so. Remember to critically analyze WHY this goal is essential to you. If it is something irrelevant or uninteresting, it will get swept under the rug in no time. True goals are based on something you highly desire for good reasons.

#2: Maintain Your Values

Second, you need to ensure your goals are consistent with your values. For example, if you want to grow your business but value going out and having fun more, you will not create the space to work on your business.

I highly recommend taking the time to analyze your priorities in both life and business. Sometimes, we need to make hard choices to ensure that our top priorities are front and center in our lives.

#3: Be Ready to Adapt

Goal setting means that you will also have to change or adopt a new behavior. For instance, if you want to lose weight and you eat at a McDonald’s every day, this means you will need to assess how you can modify your eating habits.

Changing habits does not happen overnight. People talk about needing 21 days to create a new habit. However, in his book Tiny Habits, Dr. BJ Fogg Shares that our behavior can change if we stop relying on motivation but create a new behavior that is tiny enough to change.

I help my clients achieve what they want for their life and business by using the tiny habits method. If you want to try the Tiny Habits Challenge to change your habits, I encourage you to shoot me a message today, and I will add you to the next challenge!

#4 Celebrate the Journey, Not Just the Destination

Remember, goals don't make you happy. Let me say that one more time: goals don’t make you happy.

Many people think once you achieve "x" or have "y," you will feel happy. Feeling happy comes from the thoughts we choose to feel. If you expect that achieving goals will make you happy, you will feel disappointed and unhappy if you miss your mark.

Instead, focus on the process. Celebrate the journey toward your goals. If you experience missing the mark or not achieving something, get curious about the lessons you learn during the process. This is an essential step in growing and achieving your dreams.
